New York choreographer to teach in Victoria

Victoria Ballet Theatre will hold a jazz dance class with master teacher Joe Istre on Aug. 10 and Aug. 12 at the Busby Dancenter, according to a news release.

Open to all intermediate and advanced dancers ages 10 and up, the class will be from noon to 1:30 p.m. each day.

Based in New York, Istre's credits include "42nd St.," "Chess," "Contact" and the Radio City Christmas Spectacular, according to the news release. He has also assisted with London's West End production of "Hot Mikado" and the Tony-nominated Broadway show "Ain't Broadway Grand."

His choreography credits include shows for HBO and various commercials. He has also taught at the International Ballet Festival and his choreography piece "Come Together," was placed on the National Art's Choreography Plan.

Each class cost $25 and it's recommended to arrive 30 minutes early to reserve a spot, according to the news release.
