A Victoria man died after being stabbed about 3:45 Wednesday morning.
Lt. Jason Cross of the Victoria Police Department identified the man as David Benitez Jr., 40.
The driveway of Benitez's home at 1204 East Loma Vista St. was stained with blood Wednesday afternoon. The stabbing was not believed to be related to another fatal stabbing that occurred Wednesday morning, police said.
Neighbors said Benitez was stabbed at a party elsewhere and had tried to walk home before collapsing in his driveway.
Police Chief Bruce Ure said the police are still investigating the exact location of the stabbing.
Benitez was taken to Citizens Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead, Cross said.
The incident is still under investigation, and police had not yet arrested anyone as of Wednesday night, according to Ure.
Derral Jackson, 18, has family members in the neighborhood and said he's noticed an increase in crime since he moved to Victoria from Sacramento, Calif. a year ago.
"It wasn't like this when I first came to town," Jackson said. "Victoria's getting bad in every hood."
Police encourage anyone with information to contact Crime Stoppers at 361-572-4200.
"They need to get to the bottom of whoever did this," Jackson said. "That's somebody's family."
