Award-winning country music star Janie Fricke headlines Friday's dance and auction benefiting the Mid-Coast Family Services women's crisis center.

Fricke, who has released 23 albums and has had 36 hit singles, including the Grammy nominated "It Ain't Easy Being Easy," takes to the stage at the Victoria Community Center to help raise money for the nearly $2 million women's crisis center project.

The 8,500 square-foot shelter will be built on seven acres of land in central Victoria

"We are in the final countdown and every dollar we raise matters," said Ginny Stafford, Mid-Coast Family Services chief executive officer. "The fundraiser is a fun and affordable way to support the new shelter and take a stand against violence within the family."

The shelter will be equipped with a commercial kitchen, semi-private bathrooms, laundry facilities, a counseling room and learning lab.

Plans also call for a secure outdoor area where adults may relax and children can play. The facility will also include necessary security features to protect families and staff.

The current family violence shelter in an old Victorian home is no longer feasible because of its small size, old age and deterioration. Stafford said construction should begin in early fall with about an eight month completion schedule.

In addition to Fricke's performance, another award-winning musician, Bobby Flores, will entertain.

Flores, who plays multiple instruments including the fiddle, is featured on more than 400 albums, CDs and singles, including performances with numerous artists on major labels.

Panache on the Square of Goliad will cater the meal for the event. Live and silent auctions will feature such items as a one-week vacation for 10 in Manzanilla, Mexico, a one-week Colorado retreat, a Lonesome Dove 25th anniversary collector's package and a local artisans' corner spotlighting handcrafted items by local artists.
