Local filmmaker Anthony Pedone's film "The Why" was recently named the Best Web-Based Competition Feature at the Manhattan Film Festival in July.
The film was entered into the festival's online voting competition and received the most votes, Pedone said.
Manhattan is just one of many stops on the festival circuit for "The Why." Written and produced by Pedone, Eli Higgins, of Boston, and Stephen Floyd, of Austin, the experimental film was accepted into the Strasbourg International Film Festival in France last year. Later this year, the film will hit film festivals in Britain, Ireland and South Africa, Pedone said.
In January, a theatrical release is scheduled in Los Angeles, which will coincide with an online release, he added. Filmed in 18 days in various locations including Victoria, the film is an experiential study on what it is to be human, according to the filmmakers.
As the festival circuit winds down for "The Why," Pedone is already working on his next project, which is titled "An American in Texas."
