Parents of school-aged kids in The Crossroads region will soon get to experience the next best combo since peanut butter and jelly - animals and school supplies.

Walmart and the Texas Zoo have partnered together to give away free school supplies to all school-aged children with paid admission to the Texas Zoo on Thursday.

Angie Potts, community event coordinator for Walmart said about $1,000 worth of school supplies geared toward elementary through high school students will be given away from 10 a.m. through 4 p.m.

"Walmart wants to get more involved," said Potts. "We're really trying to help out the community for kids who really need supplies, and we're trying to help out the zoo."

Students can expect to receive various supplies including writing utensils, notebook paper, binders and a recyclable Walmart shopping bag.

First Convenience Bank will provide drinks and snacks to school supply recipients.
