Walmart will hand out school supplies Thursday at zoo

Walmart will offer back-to-school giveaways Thursday at the Victoria Zoo.

The first 200 kindergarten through sixth-grade students to arrive at the zoo receive a reusable shopping bag filled with a pencil box, pencils, crayons and colored pencils, said Leo Vitiello, a shift manager at the store. An additional 100 students in grades seven through 12 receive bags filled with a binder, paper and pens.

The company will also hand out snacks throughout the day.

Walmart believes a strong community and strong business go hand in hand, Vitiello said, explaining the company hopes the zoo benefits, too.

The event begins at 9 a.m. inside the Victoria Zoo, located at 110 Memorial Drive, and continues while items last.
