Mark Cuellar and Edward Briseno of Victoria-based Southern Made Records take pride in their community. So when they decided they wanted to give back to Victoria, they made up their minds to organize a free event to bring, as they call it, a bit more pep to the city.
Thus was born the annual Southern Made Swang Day car show, which is in its third year. From 2-8 p.m. on Sunday, car and motorcycle enthusiasts are invited to bring out their vehicles and have a good time at the Riverside Park Special Events Center, Cuellar said.
"There are no trophies. It's just an open invitation for anyone who takes pride in their car to come out and show it off," he added. "You don't have to spend any money and it gives people something to get involved in, which Victoria has been lacking of late."
In addition to the car show, a live DJ will also be spinning tunes throughout the day and T-shirt and other giveaways will be going on. Sponsored by Port Lavaca Pre-Loved Autos, Southern Made Swang Day will also feature various other local vendors.
"Everyone is welcome. There is no registration. It's just a celebration of people and what they put into their vehicles and the hard work it takes," Cuellar said. "If you're proud of your vehicle, bring it out. That's what this is all about."
