A Texas Department of Safety trooper seized 32.8 pounds of marijuana during a traffic stop on Saturday, with a street value of $52,500.

About 11:22 a.m., a silver, 2004 Pontiac Grand Prix was traveling north on U.S. Highway 59 near state Highway 185.

After a trooper pulled the vehicle over for speeding, he noticed several indicators of criminal activity, said DPS Public Information Officer Gerald Bryant

The driver, 37-year-old Penitas resident Vanessa Campos, consented to a search of the vehicle.

During the search, Bryant said the trooper discovered 19 bundles of marijuana, in false compartments under the front seats.

Campos and her passenger, 44-year-old Edinburg resident Jorge Elizondo, were both charged with third-degree felony possession of marijuana between five and 50 pounds.

They are both in custody at Victoria County jail.
