A motorcyclist was in serious condition Sunday night after hitting a dog at the intersection of Laurent and Juan Linn streets at 8:57 p.m., according to Officer Justin Garcia of the Victoria Police Department.
Becky Perez Rossman, of Bloomington, was driving on Laurent Street when she said she was flagged down by bystanders around the wreck.
Rossman, who is a nurse at the Driscoll Children's Clinic in Victoria, said the motorcyclist had a head injury and was walking around the scene confused and in apparent shock.
She said she got a towel from her car and wrapped it around the man's head until paramedics arrived.
The motorcyclist was taken to Citizens Medical Center, where he was in serious condition Sunday night, according to Garcia.
A hospital spokesperson was unable to provide an update on his condition Monday night.
The dog, which Garcia described as a chow mix, died at the scene.
"It was so sad," Rossman said. "I stayed and rubbed the dog's head until he took his last breath, trying to make him comfortable."
Rossman said the dog had a collar, but no tags.
Garcia said there were many bystanders at the scene of the accident, but none came forward to claim the dog.
No further details were available Monday night.
