With temperatures continuing to stay in the 90s and heat indexes sometimes reaching into the 100s in the Crossroads, local agencies are seeking help for those most at risk.

The Victoria Senior Citizens Center and the Community Action Committee of Victoria are collecting donations, either of box fans or cash donations to buy fans.

"We need fans," said Debbie Garner, executive director of the Senior Citizens Center. "We already have a waiting list and expect it to get even longer the deeper we get into the summer."

Vicki Smith, executive director of the Community Action Committee, said her organization has about six dozen requests for fans already.

"A local business has offered us a reduced price on fans if we can get the funding," Smith said.

To donate fans, cash or to sign up to receive a fan, contact the Senior Citizens Center at 361-576-2189 or go by 603 E. Murray St. Those in need of a fan may also sign up at the Community Action Center, 4007 Halsey St.

Donations of fans or cash may also be made there. Call 361-578-2989.
