Cuero police say officer shoots man who pointed gun at him

CUERO - A Cuero police officer shot and killed a man who pointed a gun at him Thursday night, police said.

The incident began at 10:41 p.m., when police responded to a 911 call at 204 N. Terrell St., where a man was threatening suicide, according to a news release from the Cuero Police Department.

After hearing what sounded like a disturbance inside, officers entered the house. According to the preliminary investigation, the man pointed the pistol at officers. One officer fired twice, striking the man, according to the news release.

Officers rendered aid until emergency medical services arrived and the man was taken to Cuero Community Hospital. He was pronounced dead at 11:30 p.m. by DeWitt County Justice of the Peace Bill Robinson, according to the release.

The Texas Rangers are conducting the investigation into the shooting and the name of the officer and the shooting victim will be released pending further investigation, said Cuero Police Chief Chris Hernandez.

The officer was placed on administrative leave.
