We welcome you Monday to the new and improved Advocast at VictoriaAdvocate.com.

Every Monday, viewers may visit the newspaper's website and view in-depth documentaries on topics of local interest.

The new series premieres with reporter Gheni Platenburg's documentary, titled "Juneteenth - Anatomy of a Holiday."

Juneteenth is an annual holiday that celebrates the abolishment of slavery in Texas in 1865.

Platenburg interviewed sources from Victoria to Galveston to delve into the history of the holiday and to explore whether the holiday still holds the same significance among black residents today.
