SHINER - The annual Historic Old Town Shiner Mimosas and Memories Luncheon is 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at the Shiner Restaurant and Bar, 103 E. 7th St.
The theme is Artists and Artistry and will feature the children's book "The Fairy and the Chupacabra" by locals James Mangum and Sidney Spires. In addition, select works of art by Mangum will be on display.
Also on display will be art by Rose Lewis of The Art House. Ross Tieken of Shiner Prairie Woodworks furniture and cabinetry design fame will also have work on display.
Luncheon guests can also peruse the works of Rachel Kalich, the award-winning Shiner High School artist and designer of the Shiner flag. Kalich was named one of the outstanding artists at the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo's School Art Auction.
True to the name of the event, mimosas will be served and a dessert contest will feature entries vying for cash prizes. Visitors can bid on the desserts during a silent auction.
Call 361-594-3999 for details about how to enter the dessert contest.
Chef Randy Rouse will prepare an appetizer and the salad luncheon. Spoetzel Brewery made three beers available for sampling - Shiner Bock, Blonde and Hefeweisen.
Proceeds of the luncheon will benefit Lewis as she works to replace the roof on the historic Bartak family home where she holds art classes for children and adults.
