HALLETTSVILLE - Banker Sherry Henke won the Democratic nomination for Lavaca County district clerk with a resounding victory over Moulton lawyer Travis Hill.

Henke polled 1,065 votes to 318 for Hill, 77 percent of the votes.

"I am very honored and pleased by the voter turnout in Lavaca County," Henke said. "They've given me a vote of confidence and know I can get the job done. "

Voter turnout was about 30 percent of registered voters.

Henke said the campaign was rigorous, and she tried to get out and meet as many people as she could.

"It was a lot of hard work, and I am excited about the outcome," she said.

Henke will not have a Republican opponent in November to replace retiring District Clerk Calvin Albrecht.

In the county's other contested races, incumbent Justice of the Peace, Precinct 4, Alene Lyons easily won the Democratic Party nomination over challenger Ray Johnson.

Lyons got 162 votes to 44 for Johnson. There is no Republican challenger in November.

In the other contested race, Republican Party chair Myron Rehm held off challenger Dori Wyatt, 1,004 to 812.
