Q: I'll be finished with my associate degree at The Victoria College at the end of this semester, but I'm still not sure where I want to work or where I should look for a job. Where can I go to get more information on local employers and who may be hiring right now?
A: You're in luck. The Victoria College and the University of Houston-Victoria will host the Career and Job Fair 2010 from 9 a.m. until 2 p.m. on Wednesday in the VC Student Center.
College students will have the opportunity to talk to representatives from area businesses and learn more about career opportunities and internships with more than 20 of the region's largest employers.
Attendees will have an opportunity to network, obtain career information and gain interpersonal skills by talking to employers.
Local employers, such as Citizens Medical Center, GAP Broadcasting, Gulf Bend MMR Center and Invista, along with state employers such as the Office of the Attorney General and the Texas Department of Criminal Justice, and many others, will offer information about both entry level and advanced positions. Some may conduct on-site interviews and fill job openings.
Those attending the fair are encouraged to bring resumes and dress suitably for a job interview.
The Career and Job Fair is a joint effort by The Victoria College and the University of Houston-Victoria and is sponsored by Citizens Medical Center, Invista, Devereaux, UniFirst, GAP Broadcasting, Hospice of South Texas, and The Victoria Television Group.
