PORT LAVACA - To attract a new crowd Palm Sunday, the Calhoun County Ministerial Alliance is bringing someone with nation-wide appeal.
"We intentionally didn't want a preacher," said the Rev. Tim Smith, president of the Ministerial Alliance. "People get enough of that anyway. We wanted to have somebody that they know by name and would have a different approach to things."
Former Houston Oiler Billy "White Shoes" Johnson, known for his funky chicken dance in the end zone after touchdowns, will make a special appearance on March 28.
After 14 years in the NFL, Johnson retired as the league's all-time leading punt returner. He is a three-time pro-bowler and named man of year with the Houston Oilers and Atlanta Falcons.
Johnson is known not only for his life as a football star, but for his Christian life as well, Smith said.
