EDNA - Speed limits are slated to change Thursday when the Texas Department of Transportation installs new signs on East Main Street.

The change was approved March 4 by ordinance after the city conducted a speed study in January.

The closing of businesses, relocation of the elementary school and railroad crossings prompted the speed limit changes, said Police Chief Clinton Wooldridge.

"There's just very little pedestrian traffic as compared to the past," Wooldridge said.

Speed limits from Carver Street to Peabody Street will increase to 40 miles per hour. From Peabody Street to the city limits the speed will increase to 50. It will remain the same from State Highway 111 to the area of Carver Street.

Until the signs change, residents must follow the posted speed limit signs, Wooldridge said.
