Students are spending the last few days before the Victoria school district science fair to tweak their projects.

Evelyn Sheeran, a physics and chemistry teacher at Memorial High School senior campus, said 17 students who finished their projects early were able compete in the recent Alamo Regional Science and Engineering Fair.

"I had one student qualify for the state fair with their behavioral project," Sheeran said.

Junior Christy Leos will compete at the the Exxon/Mobile Texas State Fair from April 9-11.

Sheeran discussed this week's science fair.

Q: What kind of projects where submitted?

A: There are behavioral projects, plants science projects, chemistry, physics and all types of projects.

Q: How long have students spent on there projects?

A: Normally with high school and junior high, they have to go through an approval process. Probably most have been working on them since September because when we start you never know which will go to regional or which will not.

Q: What will students get for placing?

A: Regionals has already taken place, but first, second and third usually win gift cards.

Q: What kind of projects can people expect to see?

A: You've just got to go and see. One kid did one on returning shopping baskets. We had another kid who looked at what is faster in fast food - going through the drive in or going in and picking up food.
