Van Vleck is searching for a new athletic director and head football coach.
Van Vleck Superintendent Cynthia Cleary said Tuesday that athletic director and head football coach Mike O'Guin was still employed by the school district, but refused to specify in what capacity.
Clary said the district is accepting applications through April 9 and hopes to hire a new athletic director and head football coach by the end of April or the first of May.
O'Guin has been at Van Vleck for two seasons and compiled an overall record of 4-16.
The Leopards went 2-8 last season and 1-4 in District 29-2A. Van Vleck had a chance to qualify for the playoffs, but lost to Matagorda County rival Tidehaven in its final game.
O'Guin came to Van Vleck from Fort Bend Marshall and previously coached at Fort Bend Bush and Fort Bend Austin.
O'Guin's son, Michael, graduated from Van Vleck at midterm and is currently playing football at SMU.
O'Guin was also the boys head track and field coach and led the Leopards to a second-place finish at the state meet last season.
O'Guin did not return phone messages Tuesday seeking comment.
Clary said the district is looking for a well-rounded candidate.
"Our preference is to hire an athletic director who cares about all sports both male and female," Clary said. "We have a great athletic tradition at Van Vleck and we want to build in the right direction. We want someone to come in and work with all the kids."
