The price of movie tickets at Victoria's Cinemark increases on Friday.

While prices vary according to the day and time moviegoers buy tickets, expect a 25-cent increase on most tickets, said James Meredith, a corporate spokesman.

Cinemark will increase ticket prices at most of its 424 theaters in the United States and Latin America.

Cinemark's price-increase announcement follows a trend by other major U.S. movie-theater chains. Other chains similarly announced price increases following the box-office success of 3-D hits "Avatar" and "Alice in Wonderland."

"Last year was a record-breaking year and Cinemark is very excited about the 2010 film lineup," Meredith said.

Meredith denied rumors circulated on Friday that ticket prices would increase by 10 and 20 percent.

"Our pricing changes currently being implemented across the circuit are estimated to result in an average 1-2 percent increase," he said.

High profile movies set to release this year include "Iron Man 2," "Robin Hood," "Shrek 4," "Toy Story 3," "Twilight: Eclipse," "Harry Potter" and more.
