An 18-year-old man is being held on a warrant for murder in connection with a drive-by shooting that led to the death of 21-year-old Joe Angel Caltzontzin.
Enrique Guayo Guerra of Goliad was arrested about 5:30 p.m. Friday by Falfurrias officers, about 35 miles south of Alice, according to an arrest report released Sunday.
He appeared before a magistrate in Brooks County, was transferred to Refugio County and then to Victoria, where he was booked by Detective Travis Stillwell, with the Victoria Police Department, into the Victoria County Jail at 10:45 p.m., according to the arrest report.
Additional information will be released Monday, Police Chief Bruce Ure said Sunday.
Caltzontzin was found lying outside his father's mobile home at 2204 E. North St. about 8:30 p.m. April 25 with multiple gunshot wounds. He was taken by ambulance to Citizens Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead at 8:42 p.m.
Many neighbors said they feared for their lives since the incident happened in what they described as once a peaceful neighborhood.
"That happened, and we were scared," Teresa Lopez, a longtime resident, said in Spanish. "Now when you see a car passing slowly and it scares you."
The news of an arrest made her feel slightly better.
"To know that there aren't these bad people out of jail," she said. "Now I feel a little more peaceful."
