The Victoria Economic Development Corporation was recently recognized as a premier economic development organization by the Texas Economic Development Council.
Victoria's group was among 23 organizations statewide recognized in April at the TEDC's 2010 Spring Conference in Arlington.
The award honors those who reach the highest professional standards in delivering economic development services at the local level, Carlton Schwab, president and CEO of TEDC, said in the release.
"In my years as president of the TEDC, I have found the VEDC program to always be among the best in the state and this award simply ratifies my impression," he said.
The local group's recognition is probably partly due to the reputation it has in the way it handles potential businesses looking to locate in the Crossroads, said Dale Fowler, president of the VEDC. That includes the way it markets, communicates with potential clients and the speed and proficiency at which it answers their questions.
"It's an honor," Fowler said of the award. "The Texas Economic Development Council is one of the largest economic development associations in the nation in terms of membership."
The development corporation owes credit to its whole team, including local officials and the board of directors.
"They all play a role," he said.
