Q: When will the swimming pool open?

A: The swimming pool, located at 211 N. Ben Wilson St., is scheduled to open on Memorial Day weekend. Because of service reduction in our operating budget, the days and times the pool will be open has been reduced. The pool will be open on Wednesday through Sunday from 1 to 6 p.m. Pool parties will be on Friday, Saturday and Sunday's. Entrance fee for the pool will be $1 per person.

Q: I heard on Channel 15 that the city is not going to mow the drainage ditches as often. Is this correct?

A: The Parks and Recreation Department will maintain several drainage ditches that were previously maintained by a contractor. The decision to maintain these ditches is a service reduction measure to reduce cost in the Parks and Recreation budget. In order to accomplish the additional maintenance on these ditches the regular maintenance in all parks will be reduced. All parks will be mowed every 15 days instead of the current 10 day frequency. The savings in our budget will be more than $70,000 for the remainder of the fiscal year which ends on Sept 30.

Q: Is DeLeon Plaza available for weddings and other special events?

A: Yes, DeLeon Plaza may be reserved for weddings and other special events. Please note that construction is ongoing downtown and parking is limited. Later this year portions of the sidewalks on the perimeter of the plaza will be under construction. Customers having events during working hours can expect noise from construction equipment and limited parking. Construction should be completed in late 2011.

Q: Do we have to reserve the old Little League fields in Riverside Park for practice?

A: No, practice fields in all parks are first come-first serve.

Q: When is the best time to see the roses blooming in the Rose Garden?

A: Perhaps the best time of the year to view the roses blooming at the Rose Garden is occurring right now. The next vibrant blooming period will occur in October. Over 1,300 roses are blooming at their peak. Come on out and see all the red, yellow and many multi-colored roses. The Rose Garden is open to public during regular park hours from 6 a.m. to 11 p.m. daily.
