Advocate Staff Report EDNA - Residents of Flag City plan to rally for wounded warriors Friday as busloads of injured service members will pass through the city.
A convoy of buses will pass through the city about 2:30 p.m. Friday on their way to Victoria for a flag dedication ceremony before the Warrior's Weekend fishing event.
"These guys coming in they're our true heroes," said Investigator Gary Smejkal with the Jackson County Sheriff's Office, who is heading up the gathering. "They're making sure that we have our rights. They're protecting our rights."
The city has purchased 150 American flags and will pass out the flags to residents along the town square.
The buses carrying the service members will first pass through Ganado, drive back onto U.S. Highway 59 and exit Farm-to-Market Road 530 and pass through downtown. Residents are asked to arrive about 2:20 p.m. to greet the buses.
