EDNA - The Jackson County Commissioners Court agreed Monday to apply for grants, make future repairs at the airport and replace two bridges.

The Texas Department of Transportation grants, if approved, might not be used for the repairs until 2012.

One grant through the TxDOT Aviation Capital Improvement Program could provide enough to make about $1 million worth of repairs to the county airport runway, ramps and driveways.

Another grant through the TxDOT Off-System Road Bridge Program specified repairs for bridges on County Road 3171 at Dry Creek and County Road 284 at Stem Branch.

County Judge Harrison Stafford said the bridges were examined by engineers and deemed to be needing repair in the future.

"We want to be proactive and replace the bridges before they get into that condition," Stafford said.

The county would be obligated to match each grant with contributions valued at 10 percent of each project.
