GOLIAD - Andy Torres, emergency management coordinator for Goliad County, prepares for a lot of sitting and waiting as hurricane season approaches.

Goliad will participate with statewide hurricane programs.

"We'll have a conference call, depending at what point we're at," in storm preparation, said Torres.

A command center is established at the Goliad Courthouse Annex, Torres said.

Although Goliad does not have shelters for travelers, they do provide assistance for surrounding areas.

"During the last hurricane storm, many people came to Goliad," said Torres. Goliad residents would evacuate to San Antonio.

Torres has found improvements in organizing and preparing for hurricanes.

"We get better at it every year and we learn every year from our experiences," said Torres.
