Spending time with the family was the most common plan among the half-dozen Crossroads residents said they would do when asked about their Memorial Day plans.
Those questioned all knew the holiday had something to do with the military, about half knew the holiday honored those who lost their lives in combat.
"I plan on attending the Memorial Day program in Shiner. More people need to remember that the holiday is for those who have lost their lives protecting our way of live."
We're going to the beach. Having a barbecue. Spending time with the family. Last year we took photos of the Field of Honor at Faith Family Church, made a collage, and hung it up in the house for Memorial Day. It was awesome."
"I'll probably stay at home and do some 'honey-dos.' Spend some time with my 7-year-old. Get the pool ready for summer. The day is to honor those who have died in the line of duty. A lot of people don't know that."
"We'll probably go fishing. Spend some time with the grandkids. Family time. I'm really not positive about why we have the holiday, but I know it has something to do with honoring servicemen."
"I will be spending time with my family and just taking it easy. I know the holiday is about honoring the military."
"I'm sure I'll be hanging out with my family and barbecuing. Memorial Day honors servicemen, both past and present. I know there are flags everywhere."
