Rescuers had a close call Wednesday night after a truck crashed in southeast Victoria County and came to rest on the tracks as a train was approaching.
Roger Hempel with the Victoria Fire Department said the firefighters were sent to the scene about 11:30 p.m. at Farm-to-Market Road 616 in Placedo.
He said the driver of the empty vacuum truck was not seriously injured and refused treatment.
The truck was traveling west when it left the road, stuck a guard rail, went through a ditch and ended up on the tracks.
Rescuers notified Union Pacific, which warned there was a train on the way.
Hempel said personnel put flares on the tracks one mile on each side of the crash and the trained stopped about 1.5 miles away.
