Jack H. Gilbert has graduated from Officer Candidate School at Fort Benning, Columbus, Ga., and was commissioned as a second lieutenant in the U.S. Army.

Gilbert has served in the military for three years. He is the son of Jack H. and Lynn R. Gilbert, of Victoria, and is a 2002 graduate of Memorial High School in Victoria, and received a bachelor's degree in 2007 from Texas A&M University in College Station.

On Oct. 3, the Department of the Army of the United States of America-Southwest Operations Center held a ceremony to honor the soldiers back from Iraq and Afghanistan War. During the presentation of awards Chief Warrant Officer Don E. Kolesar was honored among the soldiers of his Unit SWIOC.

He was deployed to serve in both Iraq and Kuwait. During his deployment, he received the awards of Iraq and Kuwait campaign medals.
