Boots For Bucks! In conjunction with the city's boot campaign, the Victoria Art League is sponsoring a boot art competition for adults and youth. Anyone can have fun decorating or painting a boot of any style or condition with a prize of $100 to the winner of each division.

Come by the Art League to pick up an old boot for $1 each, if you don't have one. Boots must be finished by Saturday, Nov. 6, to be judged for the people's choice prize. They will be displayed at the league for people to vote on during November.

Winners will be announced at 2 p.m., Dec. 4.

You have more than a month to prepare your boot, so get busy.

Also, the Art League is sponsoring a Holiday Market Day on Dec. 4. Individuals, clubs and craft people are invited to rent a space. Booths will be available for anyone with clean, gently used items or homemade and handcrafted items. If you would like to participate, contact the Victoria Art League.

We also started a Breakfast Games party the third Friday of each month. Contact the Art League, 361-572-0825 or Susan Bauer, 361-575-3216 for more information.

We had another busy month. Mark Keathley demonstrated oil painting for us in September. He taught us a lot in a little bit of time. Keathley plans to teach a three-day workshop in the future.

Saundra Schultz will be demonstrating at our monthly meeting on Oct. 10.

Classes continue this month in photography by Jim Fieg: oil, pastel and gouache by Sonny Timme; pottery by me; drawing with Saundra Schultz; and a children's class with Claire Santellana.

I helped with an outreach project in September with Homewood of Victoria had residents building and glazing bowls; some of which were auctioned to benefit Alzheimer's research. They made some pretty good bowls.

Local artists continue to display their talents at Wells Fargo and Victoria Airport. Come by the Art League to view the new paintings on display. Victoria is blessed with many talented people and we encourage the community to support this by visiting VAL - your community art league.
