Romantic. Old World. Family.

These are just a few words that describe the atmosphere you'll find at Athena, Victoria's only Mediterranean restaurant.

Growing in popularity, the cozy eatery retains the feel of an antique in pristine condition - the wonderfully unique qualities mix with a functionality appreciated by its beholder.

Owners John and Estee Gordon, along with their daughter, Georgia, spend much of their time at Athena making customers feel as though they are family.

"We want to make you feel at home," John Gordon said, adding that guests shouldn't expect a fast-food meal.

"It's like a love affair. That doesn't just happen in two minutes; it takes time."

History - Athena has been open for more than two years. Before that, the Gordons owned a seafood establishment in Port Lavaca for 20 years.

Cuisine - Lamb is Athena's most popular dish; however, the menu boasts a variety of courses, including seafood, steak and Mediterranean favorites.

On Staff - Along with a trained staff, John and Estee play key roles in customer service. John is the restaurant's chef and Estee is a presence in the dining room, taking orders, talking to guests and more.

Ingredients for culinary bliss - Whether you're looking for a romantic dinner for two or a family outing, Athena is the place for a great dining experience. John says the key to restaurant success is a combination of location, the right menu, ambiance, cleanliness and friendliness.
