Clarification: The DeWitt County Commissioners Court re-adopted a overall budget of $12 million with a total deficit of $1,458,835 in the maintenance, operating and debt service funds.

CUERO - The DeWitt County Commissioners court has approved the 2010-11 budget and 2010 tax rate ... again.

No changes in either the budget or tax rate were made following a second public hearing called Tuesday because the notice of the first public hearing did not appear in all three county newspapers.

The $12 million deficit budget and tax rate of 65.192 cents per $100 valuation were approved unanimously. Precinct 3 Commissioner John Oliver was absent but sent a letter offering his support for both the budget and tax rate.

The commissioners court approved the same budget and tax rate in September. The tax rate is unchanged from the 2009 rate.

About a dozen citizens and several county employees attended the public hearing. Much of the discussion centered on the condition of county roads and the cost of operating the county jail.
