Victoria College's Phi Theta Kappa honor society students helped the city dispose old, unwanted electronics as part of the annual eWaste Day.
"We collected probably 150 cubic feet of eWaste," said Phi Theta Kappa faculty sponsor Anita Brunsting. "The back of my car was absolutely crammed with old computers, monitors, you name it."
The students agreed to help make eWaste collection easy on campus and encourage proper recycling.
The week before the event students and faculty members collected old computers, computer peripherals, televisions, cell phones and other electronic items on campus. Then they loaded it all up and hauled it to the city's eWaste collection site at the Victoria Community Center.
The recycling day was sponsored by the Houston-based Bass Computers and the city of Victoria.
The city intends to continue conducting a yearly eWaste Day into the future.
