J.W. Johnson, a former Bloomington school district board member, wants to be re-elected to serve in Place 1.

"I feel like I can serve and do the job. I know the job," he said. "I know what needs to be done and I'm willing to do it."

Johnson said he believes the school district is in turmoil with the superintendent resigning, board members absent from meetings and good teachers leaving.

"I want to correct that," he said. "It didn't happen when I was on the board and I don't look forward to that."

Johnson said he is qualified to serve because of his nine years as a past board member - six as president - which led to him become proficient in education law.

"It requires you to know a tad bit more than the rest of the board," he said.

Johnson hopes to make the superintendent search his No. 1 priority, and learn the intentions of other board members.

"If you come on with a personal agenda that won't work," he said.
