Luncheon planned for US veterans of all wars
Oct. 19, 2010 at 5:19 a.m.
The Victoria Veterans Outpatient Clinic, along with Warrior's Weekend, is sponsoring a Veterans Outreach Fair and Appreciation Luncheon on Saturday.
This is a Veterans Administration event for all veterans, not just those who have been in combat.
The event will take place from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Victoria Community Center.
The event will provide information on veterans' health issues, benefits and eligibility.
At this time, at least 25 organizations, which assist veterans, have registered to be present.
Spouses are welcomed and encouraged to attend.
Lunch will be provided at no cost to the veteran and spouse. Door prizes will also be given.
Although Warrior's Weekend main mission is to provide for those wounded in the Global War on Terror, we have now grown to the point where we can reach out to veterans of all eras.
Warrior's Weekend is pleased to provide the venue and the meal for this worthwhile event.
We are losing World War II veterans at the rate of 1,200-1,500 per day and Vietnam veterans at the rate of 300-500 per day.
The good folks in Halletsville have a successful Veterans Appreciation Luncheon every April and we'd like to replicate their efforts.
They are our inspiration, along with the Victoria VA Clinic. Although this is a new event for Warrior's Weekend, we know it is the right thing to do. Most of the program will be provided by local veterans, including Cornell Green, father of our Fallen Hero, Anthony "Gabe" Green, in addition to the information from VA personnel.
In addition to this Outreach event, Warrior's Weekend is also one of the sponsors of the upcoming VFW District 24 Golf Tournament to be held at Colony Creek Country Club on Friday, Nov. 5, beginning at 1 p.m. The proceeds from this tournament are used for many causes, including the needs of widows and orphans homes as well as the needs of families of active duty personnel serving overseas. Call either Carlton Bolting at 361-564-3479 or Joe Wysatta at 361-217-0150 to either help sponsor the tournament and/or to play.
Warrior's Weekend hopes all local Veterans will allow us to express our gratitude and respect for your service and sacrifice by attending this first ever Appreciation Luncheon and VA Fair. Please contact either Juanita Diaz with the Victoria VA Outpatient Clinic at 361-582-770, ext. 61244 or Ron Kocian with Warrior's Weekend at 361-550-0187.
