REFUGIO - Refugio County Memorial Hospital will hold its 11th annual health fair on Wednesday.
The fair includes several free health screenings, screenings at a reduced cost and information on different aspects of healthy living, said Lydia Schlabach, administrative assistant.
Some of the free screenings include adult and child flu shots, blood pressure and sugar checks and depression and stress tests.
There will be 40 information booths ranging from animal safety to nursing and hospice care.
Even hospitals and health groups from outside Refugio will be at the health fair, she said.
"I think a lot of people like to get the reduced costs of the lab tests and of course the free flu and tetanus shots," she said.
Last year, more than 700 flu shots were administered, she added.
Hopes are to surpass that number, she said.
The hospitals and clinics have ordered more than enough flu shots because last year they began to run out, she said.
"It has just gotten bigger each year," she said.
More vendors, more screenings and people make every year a surprise, she said.
The health fair is geared toward residents of Refugio County but the health fair will not turn anyone away from outside the county, she said.
"What we like about it is that it is a way to promote health maintenance ahead of time and detect something that's wrong before it gets too serious," she said.
