A Victoria man was sentenced to six years in prison on Thursday for two counts of indecency with a child.
Rene Ivan Trevino, 28, was found guilty of committing the crimes during a trial on Thursday morning.
District Judge Robert Cheshire presided over the trial and hearing.
During the hearing, the now 13-year-old female victim testified that in 2004 the defendant, who is a relative, touched her while she was sleeping.
After the initial assault, the victim testified, the defendant would attempt to touch her repeatedly when she was sleeping.
The Victoria County Sheriff's Office investigated the case.
"I am proud of how the victim faced her fears and confronted the person who hurt her for so many years," said Assistant District Attorney Elí Garza in a news release. "I am also proud of how the victim had total support from her family and they are now helping her heal from the pain caused by this defendant's actions."
