The DeTar Hospital Navarro Volunteer Services will honor the family of the late U.S. Army Sgt. Andrew Creighton on Tuesday.

The hospital and its volunteers will present the family with a Hero figurine and free lunch, said Virginia Sullivan, volunteer services president.

"We do it whenever we do lose someone in the Crossroads area," Sullivan said.

Creighton, 23, of Cuero, died in early July after he drowned following a mission in the Orzugan province of Afghanistan.

The presentation is a short one, but Sullivan said it's important for the public to come out and remember those soldiers who have fallen not only in our area, but also everywhere else.

"Let's hope this isn't something we do every year," she said.
