Annual Kolache Fest Saturday in Hallettsville

HALLETTSVILLE - The 16th annual Kolache Fest celebrates Hallettsville's German and Czech heritage beginning Friday at the Knights of Columbus Hall.

A kolache is a Czech pastry with a fruit filling, and several events during the Kolache Fest highlight the tasty treat.

At noon and again at 2:30 p.m. Saturday, kolache baking demonstrations will be held. At 1:30 p.m., contestants will take part in a kolache eating contest.

The event gets started on Friday with a warm-up 42 tournament and music by Los Kolaches under the pavilion at 7 p.m.

Saturday kicks off with an 8 a.m. 42 tournament. Arts and crafts and food and drink booths open at 9 a.m.

The Kolache Fest parade in downtown Hallettsville begins at 10 a.m.

Music starts at 11 a.m. with the Czechaholics playing until 3 p.m. in the biergarten. Bad Bob Lohan will play in the food court starting at noon. From 3 to 7 p.m. Mark Halata and Texavia will perform in the food court. Texas Dream takes to the stage from 7 to 11 p.m. in the biergarten.

Other activities throughout the day include a stew cook-off, classic car and bike show, horseshoe and washer tournaments, a rock wall and a homemade egg noodle demonstration. There are also other activities for the children during the day.

The Miss Hallettsville pageant is held inside the hall at 8 p.m.
