How have you kept your Hispanic heritage alive?
"By staying alive and healthy, raising my children with bean burritos and peanut butter and jelly on a tortilla, using Spanglish in my books, stories, and anecdotes, writing about the border where I was raised, and explaining my grammatical mistakes to my children when they call me on them, for instance, when I say, 'shut the light.'"
