AARP chapter hears about estate planning

David Coffey, board-certified estate planner and probate lawyer with Cole, Cole and Easley, was the speaker at the March 29 meeting of AARP Chapter 829-Victoria. Coffey told the group of the importance of everyone having a will, making your wishes known to your family while you are able to do do. He talked about power of attorney, both financial and medical, living wills, probate and trust.

Dr. Efren Diaz DeLeon, president, presided over the meeting, held at he Victoria Senior Citizens Center, 603 E. Murray St. He welcomed guests Wanda Schmidt and Sylvia Bluhm to the meeting.

The chapter voted not to meet in April. The next meeting will be May 31 at 1 p.m.

It was reported, with regrets, that former member and past president, Chester N. Winter had died in Borne and was buried in San Antonio at Fort Sam Houston on April 1.

James Speak conducted a AARP safe driving class on March 31. Members reported 47 hours of volunteer service in the community.

Margaret Peoples won the raffle of the day.

After the meeting Adriana Valdivia and James Spear served refreshments during the fellowship hour.
