Brian Milson won the first-ever Fools Folly Festival Battle of the Bands in Yorktown. He and his band will open for the 2011 Western Days-Ziegfest.

Brian Milson wasn't sure how his band would be received when it took the stage in Yorktown on Saturday.

"It was nerve racking," said the Odessa native. "We have never played the area before and I didn't know what to expect."

What Milson and his bandmates received was a warm reception, and they made a good enough impression to win the Fools Folly Festival Battle of the Bands.

They also received a $250 cash prize and will be the opening act for Yorktown's 2011 Western Days-Ziegfest in October.

"For us to win this event is truly an honor because of the very popular prize for a slot at Yorktown Days-Ziegfest," Milson said. "I am very excited to be a part of such an event."

Members of Milson's band include Charles Crawford, Bobby Barber and Mike Vann.

Thirteen bands took part in the competition. Cornerstone placed second and The Loaded Guns, third, said Melissa Armstrong, executive director of Western Days-Ziegfest.

"All of the bands that participated were very talented and the attendees were extremely pleased with the performances," Armstrong said. "We had a very good attendance for a first time event. We had artists from all over the state of Texas participate, along with their fan base."
