Prayer changes things. At least that is what one Victoria organization believes.

The Old Landmark Committee will gather on Thursday at DeLeon Plaza, 100 N. Main St., to hold an emergency Day of Prayer.

The event comes on the heels of the national World Day of Prayer, which was on March 4.

"We don't have time," said Sandra Avery, president and founder of the Old Landmark Committee. "We need to pray before something else happens."

Avery said the prayer event will focus on Japan, Libya, increased homelessness, and overcrowded schools.

"There are schools with 45 students to one teacher," said Avery. "Someone is coming up on the losing end."

The Rev. Johnny Todd, of Port Lavaca's Cornerstone Church, will lead the prayer.

Also, several area Gospel groups are scheduled to perform at the event.

The event is open to people of all faiths.

"We need praying people, not playing people," said Avery.
