Thumbs-up to Mark Martinez. Mark is a perfect example of a mentor to emulate. This community could use a lot more like him. I am glad to see the Advocate support this good work. Thanks Mark.
Thumbs-up to those immigrants who quickly adapt, embrace, accept and join in the American way of doing things - viewing issues, obeying the Constitution, and in avoiding trying to change it to the ways of the countries they ran away from.
Thumbs-down to ABC canceling "All My Children." What will I watch on my lunch hour now? Guess I'll just stay at the office and watch the soap opera that goes on around there!
FROM THE EDITORIAL BOARD
Thumbs-up to the plaque dedicated to one of Victoria's forefathers, Placido Benavides.
Thumbs-up to Laval Simons, of Point Comfort, who started the nonprofit called Afghan Care Today. He is an ex-soldier who served in Afghanistan but was compelled to return three times to rebuild infrastructure through his organization, which has apparently been gaining national attention.
Thumbs-up to Jay Gregston, the Texas Zoo's operations manager, who worked hard to make major renovations at The Texas Zoo.
Thumbs-down to drive-by shooters.
Thumbs-down to the Legislature's cuts to education and the loss of millions to the Victoria school district. A thumbs-up to any ideas the school district can come up with to compensate for the loss.
Thumbs-down to no rain and the ever increasing possibility of a serious drought.
