The first nesting Kemp's ridley sea turtle has been spotted on Matagorda Island.
At 7:20 a.m. April 25, Fred Lanoue and Bill Farnsworth spotted turtle tracks while patrolling on Matagorda Island.
They found a nesting female Kemp's ridley sea turtle. They contacted Aransas National Wildlife Refuge biologists and aided in recovering the endangered species' nest full of eggs and documenting the female Kemp's ridley sea turtles - the first nest and turtle of the 2011 season.
The nesting season began on April 1.
