KINGSVILLE - Texas A&M-Kingsville's Samantha Alvarez and Katie Dugie were named to the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association's women's 2011 Division II All-Academic Track & Field team.
Alvarez, a Memorial graduate, was the national runner-up in the high jump, and Dugie, a Yorktown graduate, was a provisional qualifier in the shot put.
To qualify for the all-academic team an athlete must have a cumulative grade point average of 3.25 and meet an NCAA automatic or provisional qualifying mark in an individual or relay event during the indoor or outdoor seasons.
A&M-Kingsville track and field coach Ryan Dall announced the Javelinas have added Van Vleck graduate Avery Griffin to the men's track and field team.
Griffin won the 2010 NJCAA indoor national championship in the weight throw of 61 feet 5 inches, and helped lead Barton Community College in Kansas to a national team championship that season.
Griffin finished third in the discus (169-7) and fourth in the hammer throw (163-8) at outdoor national championships.
