The Victoria school board approved in a special meeting Tuesday the proposal of a 2011-12 tax rate that is the same as last year's rate.
The proposed rate of $1.3226 per $100 of property value will this year generate more money because property values increased about $140 million compared to last year.
Taxes will this year generate about $159 more per student, according to budget documents. Meanwhile, the state will cut per-student funds by about $492 in Victoria school district.
For an average home - which this year appraised at $117,109 - taxes should increase $14.73. That means owners of an average-priced home will pay $1,548.89, before exemptions, in property taxes to VISD.
State law requires the board to hold a public meeting on the tax rate before adopting it.
That hearing is set for Aug. 25.
