Victoria-area residents are invited to a Wednesday luncheon and economic workshop at the University of Houston-Victoria that will feature a speaker from the Federal Reserve Bank of Dallas.
The free program will begin at 11 a.m. in the Multi-Purpose Room of the UHV University Center, 3007 N. Ben Wilson St. Attendees must pre-register so organizers can get an accurate attendance count.
The luncheon is co-sponsored by the Houston Branch of the Federal Reserve Bank, the UHV School of Business Administration and Small Business Development Center and the Victoria Chamber of Commerce.
The luncheon speaker will be Jesse Thompson, a business economist with the Houston Branch of the Federal Reserve Bank of Dallas. He will speak on "Texas and the Economic Recovery: Update and Outlook for the Gulf Coast Region."
Thompson's presentation will cover regional and national economic barometers, including developments in energy, manufacturing, state exports, housing and construction, and the local impact of global economic risks.
In addition, representatives from UHV and the Federal Reserve's community development and economic education departments will provide an overview of resources available to support business and economic development in the Gulf Coast region.
"This is a great opportunity for area business owners to hear from a federal representative about what's going on in different areas of our economy," said Joe Humphreys, UHV Small Business Development Center interim director. "The information could provide opportunities for business owners."
Registration and network opportunities will begin at 10:15 a.m. At 11 a.m., the program will begin with remarks from Humphreys; Margaret Rice, UHV chief of staff; and two speakers from the Houston Branch of the Federal Reserve Bank of Dallas: Jackie Hoyer, senior community development adviser; and Susan Kizer, economic education coordinator.
Lunch will begin at 11:30 a.m. and Thompson's feature presentation will begin at noon.
Those wishing to attend should confirm their participation by Monday as seating is limited. They may register by calling 877-895-7232 or, in the Victoria area, 361-485-4485.
Area business people also can register online at www.uhvconnect.org.
