Rodolfo Mora, 58, of San Juan, was driving a green pickup when he hit two cows on U.S. Highway 59 near state Highway 185 on Thursday night.

Mora struck the cows about 10 p.m. Mora and his passenger, Jehu Salas, 26, of McAllen, had minor injuries and did not require transporting to a hospital.

Trooper James Vinson and firemen were investigating where the cows escaped through the fencing.

"I guessed it was two of them. I just saw them right before I hit them. And then it was boom," Mora said. Both cows died.
