Let me start off by wishing all the students an enjoyable year full of learning, growing and opportunity.

As I suspect everyone has heard at least a few times in their younger years, I was constantly being told to enjoy these years because they are going to go by fast. I really didn't think much of it then, but looking back at it now, it was like warp speed and there is no getting those years back.

Luckily there is a silver lining to every cloud, and it is never too late to make the most out of life.

Our recreation department is working hard to bring quality events and programs for you and your family to enjoy. Now my excuse has always been that I am just too busy. Sound familiar? We have a cure for that.

The staff is developing mini events during non-traditional hours. Most events are on weekends but we are now offering Tunes@Noon. The last Friday of each month, weather permitting, we will have live entertainment from noon to 1 p.m. at the DeLeon Plaza Gazebo. All you need to do is bring your lunch and join us for some great entertainment and stress relief before finishing out the remainder of the work week. We will also be hosting street dances near DeLeon Plaza on Sept. 2, and Nov. 4.

The first street dance will feature Kevin Anthony and G-Town who bill themselves as Texas Country with a Cajun flair.

The November dance will feature Love Generator. This band performs classic rock and Motown favorites. These dances will be from 7 p.m. until about 10:30 p.m. So bring your dancing shoes and a lawn chair (in case it's been awhile since you've been dancing) for some wonderful music that the whole family can enjoy. Did I mention that the events are free?

So no excuses about time and money because we are taking those factors out of the equation.

We are always looking for talented people, so if you or someone you know is interested in being the next entertainment at one of our events, please contact the Parks and Recreation Office at 361-485-3200.
